Our Honorees

Family of the Year

This year’s Family of the Year honorees have been dedicated and active members of the Young Israel for over 20 years.

He has served as Financial Secretary, Treasurer, Vice President, and President of our shul. He has also chaired the membership committee for many years and put his heart and soul into the Yom Hashoa committee which he Co-Chaired for 20+ years. His list of administrative accomplishments is extensive. He established the vibrant and growing Young Families minyan and as well as the shul greeters program, lead the remodeling of the Ira Goldschmiedt Youth Wing, the shul back yard renovation, and modernization of the shul Beit Midrash.  He introduced the Shabbos with the Stars program, the Rosh Hashana and Yom Kippur explanatory minyan, the new toddler group, and the new collegiate/post-collegiate program. We also have to thank him for his leadership in securing the Homeland Security grant and upgrading security measures for the physical plant.

She became involved in the Young Israel Sisterhood shortly after moving to West Hempstead, working on numerous projects including fundraising and Mishloach Manot, eventually serving as the Sisterhood Corresponding Secretary, Vice President, and Co-President. She also gave of her time to volunteer in various capacities for Amit, Emunah, and the HANC PTA. As her parents were founders of the Young Israel of Queens Valley, with their shul being the center of their lives, she chose to follow in their footsteps by devoting herself to our shul. We are truly grateful for her choice.

This powerhouse couple has been married for 31 years and are proud of their 2 daughters, Ariella, along with husband Pinchas and grandson Dovi, and Lila.

It is our honor to present this year’s Family of the Year award to…

Elane & Lester Bleich

Sisterhood Aishet Chayil

This year’s Sisterhood Aishet Chayil awardee was born and raised in West Hempstead as an Isseroff. Because she loved the community and the Young Israel so much, she couldn’t imagine raising her own family anywhere else. It was a natural progression for her to go from being a youth member in the Young Israel to giving back to the shul as an adult. She began by running the Sisterhood Hospitality Committee for four years, and has organized two successful Shabbatons for families looking to learn more about the neighborhood.
She is also involved in the Sisterhood events and fundraising for the shul. She is an active member of the Chesed Cooking Team and founded “Challah For Chai,” a fundraiser in which she bakes and sells Challot to raise money for Chai Lifeline. When she is not volunteering for the shul, this honoree sits on the HANC board and is a practicing Physician’s Assistant. But most of all, she devotes herself wholeheartedly to her husband David, and three children, Eliana, Hadassah, and Emunah.
We are pleased to present this year’s Aishet Chayil award to…

Ayelet Mottahedeh

Community Service Award

Our Community Service awardee has taken on many different roles within the shul community in the past few years, and we have a great deal to thank him for. In the Kiddush Room Minyan, he has served as Shabbos Divrei Torah organizer, co-chair of the Shabbos morning Kiddush committee, and spent three years ensuring davening ran smoothly as both Gabbai Rishon and Gabbai Sheni. And perhaps his biggest challenge to date, he serves as the shul’s current Gabbai Shlishi. He is a Daf Yomi Maggid Shiur, has worked as part of the House Committee and has introduced and chaired the Men’s Club and the Toastmaster’s Club. Additionally, he is a member of the Young Israel’s CSS Team.
He is truly a devoted member of our community, along with his wife, Faigy, and three children, Alex, Effie, and Atara.
We are proud to present this year’s Community Service award to someone who has truly shown his commitment to enhancing our community…
