About West Hempstead

West Hempstead is known as the “small town with the big heart” – a motto also reflected in our not-so-small Jewish community. Our religious presence includes numerous shuls and minyan options, an eruv surrounding much of the West Hempstead/Franklin Square area, mikvah, local kollel, eat-in and take-out kosher restaurants, kosher stores, and a Judaica store.

HANC - The Hebrew Academy of Nassau County

HANC’s history is intertwined with that of the Young Israel, which shared space in the school as a fledgling institution and continues to provide access for our youth groups and satellite minyanim. Since that time, HANC has sprouted more campuses and now boasts an enrollment of over 1,000 students across its four main campuses. The Samuel and Elizabeth Bass Golding Elementary School is shown here

HANC's Early Childhood Center (ECC) offers toddlers through pre-K, is conveniently located for all West Hempstead residents and also houses one of our satellite Shabbos minyanim. HANC's middle- and high-schools are located in nearby Uniondale which also serves as the campus for Ruach day camp.
