Yizkor Book 5780 / 2019

We are pleased to announce that we will be publishing the 5780 / 2019 edition of the YIWH Yizkor Book for the coming year. The Yizkor Book serves as a way to more visibly commemorate the memory of our departed loved ones, Alehem Hashalom, as well as assisting in fulfilling our obligation of Tzedakah in their memory. The Tzedakah raised by this project goes directly to funding many of the existing services provided by the Young Israel as well as supporting new programs.

As in previous years, the new edition of the Yizkor Book will be published in time for use on Yom Kippur and will be used through Shavuot. In this book, the names of loved ones for whom Yizkor is recited can be inscribed for a nominal fee. In addition, the book will also contain the Tefilot that Yizkor participants recite during the Yizkor service, those said by the entire Congregation for remembering Holocaust victims and the fallen Israeli Defense Forces members as well as those said during a cemetery visit.

Important note: If you participated in last year’s Yizkor Book (visible at the bottom of this page), your listing will automatically be included in the new edition; no action is required on your part if there are no changes to last year’s listing. Yizkor Book 5780: Cover Dedication in Memory of Ari Kahn, A'H

Ari Kahn was an amazing husband, father, son, brother and friend. He was unique in his ability
to bring joy to all those around him and, using his unparalleled intelligence, always knew the
right words to make anyone feel loved and important. Ari’s dedication to the larger Jewish
community knew no limits. Born and raised in West Hempstead, Ari was committed to helping
the community and its institutions, including the YIWH and HANC, grow and prosper. He wasn’t
just an עושה חסד, he embodied the language of our Sages in the final ברכה of the שמונה
עשרה of being an אוהב חסד; a person who pursued opportunities to do חסד with love in his
heart and a smile on his face.

The Young Israel of West Hempstead annually publishes a Yizkor Book to commemorate the
memory of our departed loved ones, Alehem HaShalom.  The Yizkor book contains the Tefilot
that Yizkor participants recite during the Yizkor service, those said by the entire Congregation
for remembering Holocaust victims and the fallen Israeli Defense Forces members as well as
those said during a cemetery visit.  Friends of Ari Kahn have decided to dedicate the front
cover of this year’s Yizkor Book in his memory and felt strongly about giving all of Ari’s
friends, as well as the West Hempstead Community, the opportunity to participate in the
dedication. There will be a special dedication page in the Yizkor Book listing all of the
sponsors.

You can participate in the dedication by making a minimum donation of $36. Please make your
contribution by filling out the form below or by mailing a check to the
Young Israel of West Hempstead (630 Hempstead Avenue, West Hempstead, NY 11552).

Please include in the memo section of the check, "Ari Kahn Yizkor Book Dedication"
